FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
How current are the exchange rates?
Rates are fetched live from the Frankfurter API (European Central Bank data) each time you load this page. ECB rates update daily on business days. For live transactions always check your bank — they add a spread of 1–3% on top of the mid-market rate shown here.
Why is the rate I get at the bank different?
Banks and currency exchanges add a spread (markup) to the mid-market rate — typically 1-3% for banks, up to 5-8% at airport kiosks. Services like Wise or Revolut offer rates much closer to the mid-market rate for international transfers.
What is the mid-market rate?
The mid-market rate (also called the interbank rate) is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices of two currencies. It's the "real" exchange rate that financial institutions use when trading with each other. Consumer rates always have a spread added.
What does USD/EUR = 0.92 mean?
1 USD buys 0.92 EUR. The first currency (base) is always 1 unit; the second (quote) shows how much you get. To convert $100: 100 × 0.92 = €92.
How do I convert in reverse?
Use the swap button to reverse the direction. Or divide: if USD/EUR = 0.92, then EUR/USD = 1 ÷ 0.92 = 1.087. So €1 = $1.09.
