What is BMR?
Basal Metabolic Rate is the calories your body needs for basic life functions — breathing, circulation, cell repair — while completely at rest for 24 hours.
BMR accounts for ~60–75% of total daily energy expenditure. Physical activity adds ~15–30%; digestion adds ~10%.
Mifflin-St Jeor (1990) is the most validated formula for non-athletes, typically within 10% of measured BMR.
