How it works
How age is calculated.
- 01
Count complete years
Start from the birth date. Count how many times the same month + day have passed up to the reference date. Each complete pass = 1 year.
- 02
Count remaining months
After the last full birthday, count how many complete months have elapsed. A month is complete when the same day-of-month arrives in a later month.
- 03
Count remaining days
After the last complete month, count the remaining individual days up to the reference date.
- 04
Convert to other units
Total days are computed as exact elapsed days between the two dates. Hours = days × 24, minutes = hours × 60.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
How is age calculated exactly?
Age is the number of complete years elapsed since your birth date. A year completes on the same month and day as your birth date. This calculator also shows remaining months and days until the next birthday.
What if I was born on February 29 (leap day)?
If you were born on Feb 29, your birthday is celebrated on Feb 28 in non-leap years for most legal and administrative purposes. This calculator uses Feb 28 as the birthday anniversary in non-leap years.
How do different cultures calculate age?
In most Western countries, age starts at 0 and increments on each birthday. In traditional Korean and Chinese age systems, a person is 1 at birth and gains a year every New Year. This calculator uses the Western system.
What is the difference between chronological age and biological age?
Chronological age is time elapsed since birth — what this calculator computes. Biological age reflects your body's actual health and aging rate, which can differ from chronological age based on lifestyle, genetics, and environment.
