FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How do I convert seconds to hours, minutes and seconds?

Divide the seconds by 3,600 and keep the whole number as hours. Divide what is left by 60 for minutes, and the final remainder is seconds. For example, 10,000 seconds is 2 hours (7,200 s), then 2,800 s left = 46 minutes and 40 seconds, so 10,000 seconds = 2 hr 46 min 40 sec. Type the seconds into the calculator above and it shows this combined form instantly.

How do I convert minutes to hours and minutes?

Divide the minutes by 60. The whole number is the hours and the remainder is the minutes. For example, 135 minutes ÷ 60 = 2 remainder 15, so 135 minutes = 2 hr 15 min. Enter the value in the minutes box and the combined result updates automatically.

How many minutes and seconds are in an hour?

1 hour = 60 minutes = 3,600 seconds. A day has 24 hours = 1,440 minutes = 86,400 seconds, and a week has 168 hours = 10,080 minutes = 604,800 seconds.

How do I convert hours to minutes?

Multiply the hours by 60. For example, 2.5 hours × 60 = 150 minutes. To get seconds, multiply the hours by 3,600 instead (2.5 hours = 9,000 seconds). The calculator shows total hours, total minutes and total seconds at the same time.

How do I convert decimal hours to hours and minutes?

Keep the whole number as hours and multiply the decimal part by 60 to get minutes. For example, 3.75 hours = 3 hours and 0.75 × 60 = 45 minutes, so 3.75 hours = 3 hr 45 min. Enter 3.75 in the hours box to check it.

How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours?

Divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours. For example, 7 hr 20 min = 7 + 20/60 = 7.33 decimal hours. This is the format most payroll and billing systems expect. The "Total hours (decimal)" line in the results gives you this number directly.

Can I enter hours, minutes and seconds together?

Yes. Fill in any combination of the three boxes and the calculator adds them up. For example, 1 hour + 45 minutes + 30 seconds gives 6,330 seconds in total, shown as 1 hr 45 min 30 sec. Values above 60 are rolled over automatically, so 90 minutes becomes 1 hr 30 min.

What is the difference between this and the Time Duration calculator?

This converter changes an amount of time from one unit to another. The Time Duration calculator finds how much time passes between a start time and an end time of day. Use this page for conversions like "5,400 seconds in hours", and the Time Duration page for "9:00 AM to 5:30 PM".
