How it works

How age is calculated.

  1. 01

    Count complete years

Start from the birth date. Count how many times the same month + day have passed up to the reference date. Each complete pass = 1 year.

  2. 02

    Count remaining months

After the last full birthday, count how many complete months have elapsed. A month is complete when the same day-of-month arrives in a later month.

  3. 03

    Count remaining days

After the last complete month, count the remaining individual days up to the reference date.

  4. 04

    Convert to other units

Total days are computed as exact elapsed days between the two dates. Hours = days × 24, minutes = hours × 60.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How do I calculate my exact age?

To calculate your exact age, subtract your date of birth from today's date. An online age calculator does this instantly — just enter your birth date and it returns your age broken down into years, months, weeks, days, hours, and even minutes. This is far more precise than simply subtracting birth year from the current year.

How is age calculated between two dates?

Age between two dates is calculated by finding the difference from the earlier date to the later date, counting complete years first, then remaining months, then remaining days. An age calculator handles leap years and varying month lengths automatically, giving you an accurate interval rather than a rounded estimate.

What is the formula to calculate age from date of birth?

The basic formula is: Age = Current Date minus Date of Birth. In practice, you compute full years elapsed, then full months in the remaining partial year, then leftover days. Most calculators also convert the total span into weeks, hours, and minutes for a more detailed breakdown.

Can I calculate my age in hours and minutes?

Yes. Once the total number of days between your birth date and today is known, multiplying by 24 gives your age in hours, and multiplying that by 60 gives your age in minutes. Our age calculator displays all these units simultaneously so you can see the full picture at a glance.

How do I calculate the age of someone born in a different year?

Simply enter the person's date of birth into the calculator and it will compute their current age as of today. You can also set a custom target date to find out how old they will be — or were — on any specific date in the past or future.

What is chronological age and why does it matter?

Chronological age is the actual elapsed time since a person's birth, expressed in years, months, and days. It is used in medical assessments, educational placements, legal eligibility checks, and insurance forms to precisely determine where someone falls in a developmental or regulatory timeline.

Is the age calculator free to use?

Yes, our age calculator is completely free with no sign-up required. Just enter a date of birth and optionally a target date, and your results appear instantly. It works on desktop and mobile browsers alike.
